About my
Jewelry

Pieces for the curious, adventurous, and independent-minded

My pieces are inspired by my life and travels: the people I’ve met; their stories, cultures, and rituals. Every moment I spend in nature is a moment of inspiration.

It is important to me to recycle and buy ethically-produced materials. Most of my pieces are created in silver, but can also be made in gold.

One of my favorite pieces is a ring I made for my mother, fashioned from one of her old bracelets and an old ring. It is a beautiful process to recycle old jewelry into something new, and give it a second life.

Step 1

Choose the model of the ring

For example, my mom commissioned a silver ring.

I prepare the sepia bone (backbone of a cuttle fish) to cut out the mold. It’s always a very dusty part of the work, but I love creating pieces out of sepia. The bone gives a special structure to the jewelry.

I collect and weigh material I can recycle. And, I check if we need additional silver for the mold.

Step 2

I prepare the molding station

I stabilize the sepia inside a baking plate, mix silver and flux powder, and heat the silver in the oven.

Step 3

The moment of truth

I take the liquid silver and quickly and carefully fill it into the sepia form. This is a very exciting moment. The bone burns during this process; you can only use it once.

The entire room smells strongly of burnt sea food.

When it is all cooled down, I separate the bone halves and see if the mold worked out well.

Each time it’s a little surprise to see what pattern emerges from the mold. Even if you reuse the same model, each piece differs owing to bone structure.

Final Stage

Now I can start working on the piece. I cut away the molding, file it down, and brush the piece until it looks beautiful.

Then I take the ring to a professional stone setter. Stone setting requires a precise skill. I prefer to have it done properly by a specialist.

step 4

Complete

Each piece of jewelry is unique, like the one for my mother – both creative and fun to make. I typically use a variety of techniques to create different styles.

If you have a piece in mind, I take commissions and would love to create something for you. Please reach out.
